In recent years, cases of sudden and accidental cardiac arrest have frequently occurred to fitness enthusiasts due to their excessive work-out or the unscientific methods they use to keep fit, which rings alarm for fitness enthusiasts and raises new demands for security guarantee measures to be available at fitness sites. Recently, many citizens coming to the Sports Center have asked the staff what the yellow apparatus hanging on the wall is and what it is for. It is actually a kind of apparatus for emergency medical aid—AutomaticExternal Defibrillator, short for AED.

       It is known that AED is a portable and operable apparatus for emergency medical aid, which is used for early defibrillation applied upon patients’ sudden heart arrest, helping patients restore heart beat and greatly increasing the successful rescue rate. In order to guarantee timely treatment for fitness enthusiasts in case of sudden cardiac arrest, the Sports Center is staffed with professional medical and rescue personnel, and has installed AED equipment at obvious locations of each venue; the Sports Center has also invited emergency rescue experts from Red Cross Society to train the working staff in providing emergency treatment in case of sudden cardiac arrest, including artificial respiration, external chest compression, AED use, emergency escape, danger avoidance, etc., thereby enhancing their security awareness and emergency aid capacities in their daily operation. As a public place for citizens’ body-building exercises, the Sports Center will always consider citizens’ fitness safety as the first priority of their service and work. Besides emergency aid measures, safety precautions, warning signs, etc., are posted in each venue to remind citizens that they should engage in body-building exercises in a scientific and safe way. Moreover, fitness specialists are assigned on site to give guidance.
